Picture Rail

How photographs sit on the morning rail — assignment, captions, consent and archiving.

An assignment is set in writing with place, time and purpose. Public places are photographed as scenes; people are described, not identified, unless they consent on the record. Captions name place, time and photographer before the set enters the noon file.

Archiving and consent

Prints on the rail are working documents, not a portfolio grid. After the noon file, captioned sets move to dated folders with photographer credit and assignment reference. Reuse for any purpose outside the morning portal requires written permission.

People in public places are described, not named, unless they consent on the record. When a face is incidental to a civic scene, the caption says so — place and time first, identity only when relevant and agreed.
